Edwardian Master Bedroom

To deliver the calm and intimate ambience the client desired for this space I linked my recommendations to two beautiful existing features; the original fireplace which was the central focus of the room, and the ceilings embossed wallpaper.

Design concept

As you can see in the images, the fireplace is very romantic with it’s repeated Edwardian floral motif and worn, naturally distressed patches of grey which I decided would be the basis for the design, and I encouraged the client to leave the fireplace in this state so that a romantic scheme could be built around it, along with the existing embossed wallpaper which was a fantastic point of interest, providing necessary texture and detail.

I settled on whimsical greys for the walls and floor to draw more attention to the fireplace and wallpaper which were both a soft white and the right grey would complement them, tie them together and anchor the scheme.

It would also pick out the grey, worn patches on the fireplace, making it stand out even more as a feature. The result was to be calm, warm and intimate, with a nod to the traditional.

Paint palette and furnishings

I chose Dove Tail for the walls by Farrow and Ball, a gorgeous warm grey with a purple undertone. Creating a sense of intimate calm, it acts as a beautiful back drop to the fireplace and wallpaper, the soft, grey carpet and plush navy, velvet curtains.

Traditionally Edwardian décor is full of floral patterns and light, clear colours which wasn’t to this client’s taste, but their palm print bed linen is a nice play on this, a light and modern ‘jungle twist’ which worked well with their house plants and other assorted accessories.
